One Slice Toaster
Basically a toaster is a method of toasting bread and prolonging the life of the bread. It was very common to do
this in the Roman times. “Tostem” is the Latin word scorching or burning. There are many different stories as to
who invented the toaster. Some say it was invented in eighteen ninety three in Great Britain, others claim it was
invented in nineteen nine in the United States. Either one, it only toasted one side at a time and had to be turned
by hand to toast the other side.
There are countless one slice toasters out there today. There is one invented by a Spanish student named Franco
Gottardo, he made the toaster to raise the toast, once it is toasted, instead of it popping up and out. It slowly
will lift the bread out for you. No more burned fingers trying to get the toast before it pops out and hits the
ceiling. Or the one slice toaster that looks like the sun. These were designed for those who are not lucky enough
to have a window or two in their kitchen. Called a concept toaster it gets brighter when the toast is done. Some
say it is not the best toaster in the world.
Gaining popularity is the retro tape deck one slice toaster. It looks like the old eight track tape system. You
just insert your bread like you did with the eight tracks. It is small and compact and fits nicely in a small
kitchen. Unfortunately it only toasts one side at a time and you will have to turn the bread to toast the other
side. It just looks cool and people don’t mind having to turn the toast.
There is another one slice toaster that looks like the sticky notes you put on everything to remind you of
things to do. The concept for this toaster is to use it as a family ‘bulletin board.’ Put a note on the touch
screen with an attached stylus, when one is ready for the toast all they have to do is read the message, hit a
certain button and there is toast. You can actually eat the message. Kids love this.
We all know that the Britons love their toast and take it very seriously. This one slice toaster is ideal for
many singles. It is fast and easy to use. It uses jet engine style fans to make the perfect slice of toast. It
takes less than a minute to toast the bread. Britons like their baked beans on toast, this way the beans will not
get cold waiting for the bread to toast. Although this one slice toaster is prototype, it does exist and the
makings of it were funded by Heinz. Heinz does not make toast or bread, but they wanted their baked beans to be
spread on the toast fast and easy.
So there are many different styles and shapes for a one slice toaster. Take your pick. These are great for
single people as well.
